Hurrah to Ikuru

By Dum Syl Aminikpo

'Days go by my window
World slows down as it goes
Goodbye to last night
Lost love out of sight
Can't you help me see'

I love this song, Zedd's remix of Empire of the Sun's Alive. Fast heavy metal beats, the type of house party music that you can't miss. Perfect song for the gangnam style. Is 6:42am too early to dance?

Somewhere in Rivers State though, someone would actually be dancing unrestrained. Tele Ikuru, the (former) Deputy of Rivers State and second in command to the Rivers State Governor and presidential campaign manager of the APC, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has pulled a stunt and decamped to the other side.

Ikuru has opted for the green white red umbrella.

Decamping isn't a big deal, but Ikuru's has come in a well planned fashion. It has come like a well scripted act.

He should win the Oscars!

Whoever directed this movie has some brains. Real ones. In the end, there will be only one beneficiary: Tele!

Ikuru, the quiet, rarely heard or seen Deputy Governor is a lucky man. Inherited by Amaechi, the engineer, a political creation of Chief Uche Secondus, waited until the last moment, took all the available benefits and salaries, then, aware, as we all know, that he would be cutoff if the APC finally wins, decided to shift camp at the 11th hour. The PDP, hungrily searching for a morale booster, welcomed him. The unknown Ikuru has suddenly become a national name. He's everywhere in the news. Whether at the State or national level, wherever the PDP wins, Tele will certainly be considered. Would this have happened if he had moved earlier? A super NO!

If the APC wins at both levels, he would have lost nothing. He wasn't in the picture anymore. Ikuru has pulled the last card. Getting all the benefits from the APC, and creating recognition for himself by the PDP. He has imposed himself in grand style.

Ikuru. That's some plot. You're are one hell of a smart guy!

'Hello to our people
Freedom is within you'
Empire of the Sun is still playing.

Tele, arise and dance. You have outsmarted both the APC and PDP.
Hurrah to you!
