Minister Nicholson Congratulates Nigerians on Peaceful Presidential Elections

OTTAWA, Canada, April 2, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement:

“We congratulate the Nigerian people on the democratic conduct of their presidential and national assembly elections. The people of Nigeria have demonstrated their strong commitment to democracy by voting in large numbers and by their peaceful and orderly conduct.

“We congratulate president-elect Muhammadu Buhari on his election and welcome President Goodluck Jonathan's acceptance of the decision of the people of Nigeria. We also congratulate all candidates elected to the House of Representatives and the Senate and commend the efforts of Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission. These elections demonstrate the growing strength of democracy in Nigeria and set a standard for elections across Africa in 2015.”
