Moustapha Soumaré Arrives As Deputy Srsg (political) In South Sudan

JUBA, South Sudan, March 30, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is pleased to announce the arrival of Moustapha Soumaré of Mali as the new Deputy Special Representative (Political) of the UN Secretary-General (SRSG) in South Sudan.

Mr. Soumaré brings to his new position a wealth of experience in UN peacekeeping operations, humanitarian affairs and development work. Prior to joining UNMISS, he served as the Deputy SRSG for the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) starting in October 2012, where he also held the posts of UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Representative of the UN Development Programme.

Mr. Soumaré was the Deputy SRSG for Recovery and Governance in the UN peacekeeping Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) from 2009 to 2012. He was named UN Resident Coordinator and Resident Representative in Benin, a position he held for five years until he was appointed to a similar post in Rwanda. In 2007 he was named Deputy Assistant Administrator of the UN Development Programme and Deputy Regional Director of the Regional Bureau for Africa at UN headquarters in New York.

Mr. Soumaré is married and has three children.
