BEVERLY HILLS, March 30, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State has accused the Labour Party (LP) of planning to unleash mayhem in the state once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announces results of the National Assembly elections in the state.

A statement signed by the state secretary of the party, Mr Goddy Etta, said his party has credible security report that the opposition party would unleash violence in the state, including the burning down of INEC's office in Calabar, should it's candidates lose to PDP candidates.

“Information reaching us has it that the leadership of the Labour Party in the state and its candidate for the Cross River South Senatorial District, Prince Bassey Otu, have hatched a plot to sponsor violence in the state once INEC announces the result of the election and it is not in Otu's favour‎,” he stated.

Continuing, the PDP stated that “having failed in their attempts to influence electoral officials in the state to manipulate the election in favour of its candidates, the Labour Party has gone to its Plan B, which basically is about discrediting the elections through sponsored acts of violence.”

Besides the alleged sponsorship of violence, the ruling party also accused the opposition party of embarking on a smear campaign against the leadership of the PDP, particularly Governor Liyel Imoke, so as to discredit the elections.

“We are also aware that the Labour Party has financially induced ‎other opposition parties, including the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) to address a press conference and level false accusations against the state governor and the leadership of our party concerning the conduct of the elections.”

He said his party was therefore, alerting security agencies in the state to this threat, urging them to be vigilant to ensure there is no breach of peace in the state.
