A bomb explosion rocked the Ayom Na Okpala Primary School 00 1 Polling Unit in Amenyi Ward 1 of Awka-South Local Government Area of Anambra State early Saturday morning.

The early morning explosion sent voters who had arrived the polling centre for the mandatory accreditation exercise scampering for safety amid the confusion before normalcy was restored by men of the anti-bomb squad of the State Police Command who were called in to rescue the situation .

Though no fatalities were recorded, the school building was destroyed as some classrooms were pulled down by the impact of the explosion.

Confirming the incident, a voter who gave his name as Isaac Nwosu, said he, along with other voters, had arrived the centre for accreditation but were jolted by the explosion which disrupted the exercise.

After the confusion calmed down, INEC adhoc personnel continued accrediting voters despite the charged atmosphere in the area.
