Phccima Member Companies, M. Saleh, Monipulo, Weco Engineering & Hotel Presidential Blazes Trail In Garden City Corporate Awards

Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce member companies, M. Saleh, & Company Nigeria Limited, Moni Pulo Nigeria Limited, Weco Engineering and Hotel Presidential were all winners as they blazed the trail in the maiden edition of the Rivers State Ministry of Commerce and Industry 'Garden City Corporate awards' held last December at the Atlantic hall of Hotel Presidential.

While M. Saleh, & Company Nigeria Limited carted home the best company in the state for the medium scale enterprises category, Weco Engineering and Hotel Presidential were also awarded but the biggest gainers of the night was Moni Pulo Nigeria Limited, the company had a double delight, emerging both as the best in the large scale enterprises category and the overall best Corporate Company Award winner for 2014.

Receiving the Garden city award for the best Medium Scale Enterprise in the state the MD/CEO of M. Saleh and company Nigeria Limited, Chief Nabil M. Saleh who also is the second deputy president of PHCCIMA noted that the company is elated to be found worthy of such award in a very competitive category. According to him the award will spur his company into performing more creditably in terms of corporate responsibilities as well as contributing immeasurably towards building the economy of Rivers State. Chief Saleh thanked the commissioner and staffs of the Ministry for initiating the programme expressing confidence that if sustained it will take the state to the next pedestal.

Mrs. Seinye Lulu Briggs of Monipulo Nigeria Limited who emerged best in the large scale enterprises category as well as the overall best corporate organization Award for 2014 in her remark expressed gratitude for the award, assuring that Moni pulo Nigeria Limited will continue to do what it knows best both in corporate social responsibility and adding value to the economy of the state

President of Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Engr. Emeka Unachukwu was also in attendance as the guest lecturer and presented a thought provoking paper to the delight of the crowd. He described the award as apt saying it will encourage corporate innovations and foster sustainable partnership. Unachukwu explained that excellent performance by these corporate entities exemplifies extraordinary leadership that have huge impact on community and results in tremendous social progress.

Reading his address at the event the Rivers state commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chuma Chinye described the programme as first of its kind in the state, adding that it was aimed to acknowledge the contributions of some companies towards the economic development of the state.

He said that, the Ministry within the last three years has initiated some innovative programmes stressing that efforts are being made to strengthen the synergy between the private sector and the government.

The Commissioner said that the companies so far selected for the Awards have performed creditably in terms of corporate responsibilities as well as contributing towards building the economy of Rivers State.

Ten corporate companies were shortlisted for the honours at the maiden edition of the Garden City Corporate Awards out of an initial 35 after vigorous screening and debate by the Awards selection committee, made-up of seasoned mass media practitioners.
