Japan-Kenya Foreign Ministers' Meeting

TOKYO, Japan, March 25, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- On March 15, commencing at 10:40 a.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Ambassador Amina Mohamed, Cabinet Secretary (CS) of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, during her stay in Sendai to attend the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

1. Minister Kishida welcomed CS Amina to Japan, and stated that Japan and Kenya enjoy an amicable relationship including in the field of economy, and expressed his will to build a win-win relationship via cooperation in public and private sectors. In response, CS Amina expressed her gratitude for Japan's warm welcome, and renewed her sympathy for those who suffered as a result of the Great East Japan Earthquake. CS Amina stated that the bilateral relationship between Japan and Kenya is extremely good and that they are most important partners. She expressed appreciation for the support Japan has extended to Kenya thus far, and stated expectation for Japan's support on developing infrastructure and promoting trade.

2. Minister Kishida explained that Discussions are currently underway to hold the next TICAD in Africa for the first time in 2016 and requested cooperation toward its success. CS Amina replied that she herself is fully committed to ensure a successful TICAD.

3. Minister Kishida said that he would like to cooperate with Kenya on the UN Security Council reform, to which CS Amina indicated her engagement on the issue.

4. It was also confirmed that the two countries will both make an effort to ensure the success of the WTO Ministerial Conference, which is scheduled to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in December this year.
