SAN FRANCISCO, February 28, (THEWILL) – Four persons were killed Saturday when a bomb exploded accidentally at a roadside at Ngamdu village in Borno State.

The village is located some 100 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

Local sources told THEWILL that two suspected female suicide bombers waiting by the roadside to travel to Damaturu were blown up by the explosives along with two other intending travellers, who were waiting with them.

Informed sources said the two female bombers may have been headed for Damaturu for a major terror attack but may have been hindered by their inability to get a commercial vehicle to convey them to Damaturu.

According to an eyewitness, “our bus driver whom the women flagged down to convey them to Damaturu, suddenly became suspicious after observing how disheveled they both looked and quickly declined by pretending that he was not getting as far as Damaturu.

“Some of us were slightly suspicious when we saw them, although we wanted to have sympathy for them as we felt perhaps they may not be what we suspected them to, but the driver had already made up his mind about them and decided to drive off.

“We were later to hear a big bang few meters away from them and out of suspicion, the driver reversed driving back to the spot where we saw four persons with their bodies mangled from the impact of the explosion.

“We learnt from the people around that a bomb detonated from one of the women dressed in hijab and the first explosion ignited the explosive on the other woman equally dressed in hijab which caused the death of the four intending travelers.”
