SAN FRANCISCO, February 27, (THEWILL) – A warning has gone to politicians in Borno State to stop using thugs to settle scores.

Giving the warning, Friday, in Maiduguri, the state capital, was the state Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in a statement signed by State NOA Director, Alhaji Yahya Imam.

According to the statement, “The agency is sadden by the recent act of indiscipline perpetrated by persons believed to be political miscreants against some prominent personalities in the state.

“This include the recent attack on the Governor Kashim Shettima convoy and the burning down of the PDP/ Goodluck Jonathan campaign secretariats in Krikasama road in Maiduguri metropolis.

“The directorate believed that if these unfortunate incidences are allowed to continue unchecked, it would lead to inter party conflicts and crisis which would definitely graduate to political unrest capable of disrupting the significant level of peace recently recorded in the state capital and beyond.

“In the light of the above therefore, the directorate appeals to all party leaders and supporters to exhibit high level of maturity in all their political activities and programmes.

“Political actors should always respect leaders and leaderships and play the game of politics according to the laid down rules and regulations.

“They should be law abiding citizens and always exhibit the spirit of politics without bitterness.”

Maintaining that the security agencies have a very important role to play in ensuring peace and unity as well as making sure that perpetrators are punished, the NOA Director said:

“We therefore wish to seize this opportunity to further appeal to all our traditional and spiritual leaders as well as our elders in the state to intervene in this ugly situation through their continued prayers so as to bring a lasting peace in the state.”
