The people of Okuku in Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State have vowed to vote against the government of Rochas Okorocha for abandoning their only major road linking them with other neighbouring communities.

The people of the area made this remark during an unscheduled visit by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate in Imo State Capt. Emmanuel Ihenacho to the area recently.

Speaking during the visit, most of the inhabitants of the area who came out en mass to welcome the governorship candidate complained that they voted massively for Governor Okorocha in 2011 but was abandoned by the governor after the election. They however lamented over the hardship they have encountered over the years owing to the deplorable nature of the roads in the area.

They blamed the Okorocha government for telling them lies over the road complaining that the contractor handling the road abandoned both the road and his construction equipment in the area for more since the year 2012 because of non payment of the contract sum.

However, the people vowed to vote for the APGA candidate during the on-coming election in the state.

Speaking on the importance of the road, Mr. Chukwuma Njoku said that the road is highly important as it connects the area to communities in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area and other food producing communities stating that Capt Ihenacho should consider the road as one of his priority projects if voted into office as governor.

In his reaction, Capt Ihenacho remarked the economic advantage of the road and expressed shock at its deplorable nature.

'This place is a food producing area that also links to other major food producing areas in Owerri and Ohaj-Egbema. Considering its nearness to Owerri metropolis, it is indeed a very important road. But it is unfortunate that vehicles cannot pass beyond the local Area (L.A.) Primary School axis of this road. That is a very big economic disadvantage to our people…'.

Nevertheless Capt Ihenacho promised that the road would be one of the first roads he will build if voted into office as a governor.

The ex minister further used the opportunity to unfold his manifesto for the state and pleaded for the people to also vote other APGA candidates during the March and April elections.
