Enugu State indigenes resident  in Port Harcourt, Rivers State have given expression to the soaring support enjoyed within and outside the state by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the southeastern state in the coming elections. The people have added about N28million to the war chest of the ebullient candidate, whose popularity and adoption by the people of Enugu State has been soaring since Semptember 26, 2014 when he was adopted comsensus candidate in the state. PDP enjoys overwhelming popularity in the state, which was one of the highest voting states for PDP in percentage terms in the previous election cycles . The money was raised in a fund-raising dinner held at Le Meridien Ogeyi Place, Port Harcourt. The coordinator of the event, Mrs. Theodora Obi-Okeke, was overwhelmed by the spectacular  turnout of dignitaries. According to her,  “It was splendid, it was fantastic; in-fact we were so surprised; they were so organised and we got a lot of money. It is the best so far and we thank God. “We decided to raise money for his campaign; you know they spend a lot of money and that is a feature of the federal system of government; I don't like it but there is nothing one can do. At the last constitutional conference I thought they were going to change it. The federal system is so expensive, so, we needed to raise money to support his campaign. On the ever growing support for the state PDP gubernatorial candidate, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, she said: “We are scared because for people to love you like this, everybody is saying how is he going to go over this because the support he is getting is so massive. I have never seen a thing like this before. Everybody loves him. Everybody is claiming to be his pal; I don't know how he is going to sort it out.” She explained that the fund raising was for Enugu people in Port-Harcourt “but surprisingly even people that are not from Enugu came in; friends of Enugu. You know Enugu is the capital of the South East, so, everybody wants to be in Enugu, so people from Anambra, Imo State they all came on board and it was nice.” Mrs. Obi-Okeke urged Enugu people to ensure they get their PVCs, which she said was very important so they could vote for their brother and friend, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for governor and President Goodluck Jonathan. The chairman on the occasion, Dr. Theophilus Osanakpor, assured the people that Ugwuanyi, when elected would improve on the legacies already put in place by Governor Sullivan Chime and called for all hands to be on the deck to ensure smooth victory for the PDP candidate.
