SAN FRANCISCO, February 21, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been accused of planning to scuttle the rescheduled general elections in Borno State.

The state government made the accusation Friday at a media briefing in Maiduguri, the state capital. The state Commissioner of Information, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, who spoke at the briefing , said the recent politically motivated attack and allegations by the PDP were parts of the orchestrated plan to ensure that the elections do not hold in the state.

“Everyone knows that the PDP cannot win the forthcoming elections as they have been no where in the last four years when the state had to go through it's hardest time in its annal.

“Since the PDP knows that they are going to meet their Waterloo during the elections, they do not want the day to come or try as much as possible to discredit our victory which is already assured .

“The PDP has nothing to lose should the election not hold but on our part we have everything to lose since we are waiting for the day to get our mandate renewed.

“It is a known fact that the leaders of the PDP in the state, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Alhaji Mohammed Imam, are the promoters of politics of violence and are presently drawing from the reservoir to destabilise the state.

“That Sheriff having lost his bid for the Senate has nothing to protect but to see that Governor Kashim Shettima who has grown to become his major traducer does not get his mandate renewed.

“On his part, Mohammed Imam has seen that the election is already won and lost and he does not have the intention of accepting his fate and move on without an inglorious fight,” the Commissioner said.

Maintaining that the state government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will do everything to ensure that the elections are held , he said “we can see that we have the chance of not only winning the state but forming government at the federal level.”

Warning members of the general public to be wary of Sheriff's game plan, he said “we are fighting against the master of political manipulation and a desperate politicians who can even make you believe that black is white with lies and manipulation.”

According to him, “You need not be reminded that Sheriff is presently being investigated by the International Court of Justice for his involvement in Boko Haram insurgency and surely a character like this can do everything for power even to the extent of hiring thugs and dress them in opposition regalia to attack his party structure in order to deceive everyone and score a point.”

The state chapter of the PDP had earlier alleged that the state governor, Kashim Shettima, had used thugs and members of the Civilian JTF to attack its party supporters and set ablaze one of its campaign offices during Monday's campaign visit of the APC Presidential Candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to Maiduguri.
