Evans Egbo: The Man with Grassroots Sports Development in Delta State

Precisely late last year, a notable social media network in Isoko called 'Umeh Need Road Forum' where some Isoko intellectual youths were agitating for Sir.Hon Evans Egbo to be appointed as the Commissioner for Sports by the present serving governor of Delta State, Dr.Emmanuel Uduaghan over his grassroots support in the State. Though, that agitation never came into fruition due to some self-centred political forces in the land.

However, Hon. Evans Egbo is a man with determination who never gave up his sporting ambition than picking the nomination form for the office of the chairmanship position for Delta Football Association (DFA) which election comes up February 19th, 2014 in the State.

Sir .Hon Evans Egbo was born and bred up at Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State and did both his primary and secondary education in Isoko and later proceeded to the University of Benin where he read Public Administration. As a man with creative vision, he contested for councillorship position and won and became a House leader at a tender age. He is a man who does not repeat a class while pursuing his vision in life. Mindset Media Limited recently described him as a” Man after God's heart “in Isokoland.He takes other peoples' problems as his own problem and nothing more. In 2014, Hon.Egbo contested for Isoko South Chairmanship position but stepped down for a consensus candidate of the PDP to take over the leadership. He boldly told the press that he has given his full support to Sir Hon Malik Ikpokpo and Chief Raphael Okaruefe.Looking at his political career; you will know that Hon. Evans Egbo legacies speak volumes of his greatness in life. He is not just a mere sports spectator but a real participant with creative sports ideas to grow grassroots sports in Delta State. He is the chairman of Isoko United Football Club and others in Isokoland.He is a notable referee Isoko Nation has ever birthed in recent times.

One thing about Hon.Egbo is that he has a distinguished unassuming nature in life that has brought him before great sports leaders and politicians in Nigeria. With his multiple experiences in grassroots sports in Delta State over the years and his political connection, if he wins the position and he is ready to take the leadership to the Promised Land. The Delta State Football League Management Board was inaugurated on the 27th of March 2013 by the Executive chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission who doubles as the Chairman of the present Delta Football Association, Amaju Melvin. Through Hon.Egbo, some of the grassroots sports in Delta State would be revived if elected. If the like of Blessing Okegbare could make Delta State proud then ready for Egbo to discover more grassroots talents for international competition. Other contestants for Delta Football Association are also qualified for the position but Egbo is one man that distinguishes himself from the crowd. Delta State grassroots sports have suffered total neglect over the years where most talents are now political thugs to some desperate politicians in the state. He has received over 10 meritorious awards to his credit and remains sought after philanthropist in the state.

Finally, Hon. Evans Egbo deserves the seat because the die has been casted by his veritable supporters over the past and present involvement in grassroots sports in Delta State. He is happily married and blessed with children.
