SAN FRANCISCO, January 30, (THEWILL) – The Senate has not received any communication from the Presidency seeking confirmation for at least six ministerial nominees as reported by a section of the media on Friday, senior officials at the office of the Senate President have said.

The officials, who asked not to be named in this report because they are not authorized to speak for the Nigerian Senate, told THEWILL that there has been no letter from the Presidency concerning ministerial nominees.

The reports had claimed that president Goodluck Jonathan had forwarded to the Senate for confirmation a letter containing the names of six ministerial nominees.

Some of the names listed included that of a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; Mr. Kenneth Kobani, a former National Treasurer of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, and a former Senator, Patrick Akwashiki.

The Senate has been on recess and is scheduled to resume on Tuesday, February 17, 2015, just three days after the presidential and National Assembly elections.
