A MISSION TO CLEAR A BACKLOG OF FELONS?

Writing about societal ills is not the easiest task in the world.

Writing about these things is no less easy than talking about them....not with an old-fashioned mobile phone from which data literally disappears after strenuous typing. Or potential retina damage....as the harsh backlight burns through your retina.

You maroon yourself in isolation for hours on end. Solitude! That's the word! You are ever so deep in concentration that people around hardly gain your attention. And you feel so irritated whenever they succeed in gaining access into your consciousness.

You ignore your person for days....hurriedly grabbing quick bites and returning to "work"!

You ignore phone calls and answer only those you deem "essential". Meetings, parties and other gatherings are out of the question except they are "absolutely necessary"!

You used to buy "credit" for your phones and USB dongles in the order of tens of thousands of naira but these days, you make do with recharge cards as low as N100 and use the latter as prudently as you can....joggling phones and SIM cards...lest your android 2.0 phone eats up all your "credit"!

You make a "firm" resolve to take a permanent rest from all this nerve-racking literary tasks. You may even bargain with yourself to pace yourself and take periodic rests if you cannot go into "permanent retirement".

You admonish yourself to desist from such punishment....but the next minute, you are picking up your phone and typing away!

So I ask myself, is this a calling?
The stress is ruining my health!
