SAN FRANCISCO, January 26, (THEWILL) –The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is still counting the costs of Boko Haram's weekend seizure of Monguno, a community in the northern part of Borno State on its operations.

The relief agency said on Monday that it had registered 5,000 persons displaced from Monguno at a newly-established camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri, the state capital.

The Northeast Zonal office information officer for NEMA, Mallam AbdulKadir Ibrahim, who disclosed this said the state government has also donated an almost completed housing estate along Gubio road on the outskirts of Maiduguri to accommodate the IDPs.

According to Ibrahim, many more IDPs were still being expected at the camp, adding that 2,000 persons arrived Maiduguri on Sunday while the remaining 3,000 arrived on Monday.

“At the moment, we have registered the 5,000 persons and we are expecting more, we have put the needed materials that will make them settle to their new lives at the camp,” he said.
