NWERRE, NWANGELE PEOPLE HAIL IHENACHO’S CANDIDATURE

By Iwuala Emperor

As various political parties intensify their campaigns for the February general elections, the people of Nkwerre Local Government Area (L.G.A.) in Imo State have said that the immediate past Minister of Interior remains the best governorship candidate in Imo State.

This remark was made by the President-General of Nkwerre Community Nze Allen Okwarocha when members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State paid a courtesy call to H.R.H. Eze Chijioke Okwara at the royal father's palace in Nkwerre ahead of a campaign rally by APGA in the area recently.

Speaking on behalf of the people of the area, Nze Okwaraocha described the former minister who is the APGA governorship candidate in the state as a technocrat, transparent man and the most qualified to rule Imo State as governor.

'I knew Capt Ihenacho when we were with him in the U. K. He helped a lot of us then. Also when he was a minister, he was the best minister of his time and the best the Igbos have ever produced in the Federal Executive Council. His blue print for the repositioning of the Nigerian Prisons and Immigration Service has been the best. As a minister, he ensured that Igbos in the parastatals where he superintended were never marginalized. Also, he was the brain behind elevating our daughter Mrs. Rose Uzoma to the rank of Comptroller General of Immigration. As a minister, he also gave thousands of our unemployed youths jobs in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Customs, Immigration Service, Fire-Service etc. His contesting election is a divine project because he is not a typical politician like others. However, with the kind of education he has, his experience and the calibre of person he is, he is indeed the best for Imo now…'.

In his own reaction while describing Capt Ihenacho as a perfect gentleman, Eze Okwara remarked that the international mariner won his admiration when he (Capt Ihenacho as the then Minister of Interior ) laboured and got one of his subjects Mrs. Uzoma elevated to the position of Comptroller General of Immigration.

Still speaking at the occasion, the monarch commended the peaceful conduct of office seekers in the state since the electioneering campaigns started and admonished that it should be maintained accordingly till the end of the elections.

Unfolding his blue print on the state earlier at the event, Capt Ihenacho said that because of the low quality of education, many youths in the state were not employable after graduation.

He however, promised qualitative education, industrialization and to lead advocacy for the removal of the Immunity Clause in the country's law that protects governors from being prosecuted for corruption while in office. This he remarked would ensure transparency and accountability in governance.

Addressing the people of the area later during the campaign rally at Central School Amaokpara Nkwerre, the governorship hopeful reiterated that the APGA being an Igbo based party had the best agenda for the Igbos urging the people to vote for the party during the general elections.

The governorship standard also took his campaign to Nwangele L.G.A. where he addressed to huge crowd that warmly received him and members of his entourage at the National School playground Amaigbo.

Capt Ihenacho was accompanied to the three events by his running mate Rt. Hon. Ike C. Ibe, the State Chairman of APGA in Imo State Barr. Peter Ezeobi and other executives and leaders of the party.
