COMMENDING ARCITECT DARIUS ISHAKU FOR CAMPAIGNING ON THE ISSUES
As the various contestants go from one campaign to the other, we the undersigned wish to commend the PDP flag bearer, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku for exhibiting high level maturity in his campaigns. He is also commended for sticking to the issues rather than deviating into pettiness and attacks on personalities. Darius's supporters are also commended for their sense of discipline and restraints in the face of mounting provocation.
This is commendable in a time when campaigns are starting to bring out the worst in people. The other day in Gembu, for instance, some supporters of another party tried so hard to heckle the PDP candidate and the Acting Governor, Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi as they entered the town. Apart from hurling stones as the convoy sped pass, the rival party supporters were also chanting inanities and insults.
Retaliation by PDP supporters would have been bloody. Rather, Darius waved back at the mob who even came close to his vehicles to look for trouble.
On the thugs themselves, Darius told a group recently that his heart bleeds for them. He said that it is for this demography he is running for governor.
He said “I'm running for governor to find a way of creating employment for this drugged youths. Clearly, these youngsters are only been deluded and pushed by the destitution of their circumstances. If they are gainfully employed, they would be busy. They won't become pawns in anyone's hand. So that is why I'm going to work to end unemployment. Soon, they would realize that I'm their best friends and not their worst nightmare. I'm really not angry with them. While they are doing this, I'm plotting how they would return to school, get jobs and start families to get a decent life. That is my passion.”
We have also noticed that Darius has not spoken about any candidates in bad light. He even gave credit to one of the candidates with unruly supporters. He told newsmen that he believed that their idol is a decent person who would not endorse the unruliness of the frenzy thugs.
With Darius, we are starting to see a fresh kind of campaign in Taraba. He has reintroduced decency in keeping with the way Governor Danbaba Suntai used to campaign which is politics without bitterness.
What Darius has done so far is to tell the Taraba electorate what he would do if they agree to vote for him. At the flag off event in Gembu, he said that he did not just come from nowhere to run for office. Brandishing his credentials, he told the crowd that he is a local son of the soil who was used by providence to bring about some major changes in the state.
Darius then gave his score card sheet when he was in the Ministry of Power as minister. He said that it was from here he worked hard to accelerate work on the Mambilla Hydro Power Dam a reality. Elsewhere in the state, he had worked real hard to ensure that the Kashimbilla dam kicks off very soon. His message is a simple one: “I have a track record of working for this state. If you give me your mandate, I would do it again.”
Other issues he us addressing are that of security, tourism, agriculture, power and youth unemployment.
We are therefore endorsing his style and recommending it to his colleagues in the race. They should emulate this brand new ways of wooing voters rather than the crude trouble making, trouble courting style of the past.
