The Campaign of the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel this Friday, received a boost following a rally tour to Urueffong Oruko and Oron local government areas.

At both areas visited, an unprecedented mammoth crowd of supporters besieged the campaign venues to declare their support for Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the other candidates of the PDP.

From the Uya Oro Junction down to the Oron township Stadium, a colourful array of different youth and women groups chanted and wave at the convoy of the Governorship hopeful, who was accompanied by the State Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio.

Among those who drummed support for Udom Emmanuel included the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mrs Akon Eyakenyi, Senator Effiong Bob, Senatorial Candidate Nelson Effiong, Wife of former deputy governor Atim Etim Okpoyo, former Federal lawmaker Esio Oquong Udoh, former state lawmaker Uno Etim Uno and some youth leaders.

Their thinking was that Oron Federal Constituency stands to benefit more from Udom because apart from sharing the same senatorial district, Udom possessed better credentials than those in the opposition parties.

According to them, Oro nation had never played opposition politics and would rather support the incoming governor to bring more development to Oro nation.

Addressing the crowd at Oron Township Stadium, Mr Udom Emmanuel thanked the Oron people for their overwhelming support and promised to harness the potentials in the shoreline of the federal constituency to attract investments and more economic opportunities for the people.

Udom expressed the belief that the efforts of the present administration in securing partnership with the federal government on the Ibaka Deep seaport project, and the subsequent approval of the area as an export processing zone, he will not relent in attracting marine activities that will stimulate accelerated economic growth in the State.

“What we have in the shoreline is enough to create employment and

investment opportunities and make life more meaningful for our people,

the designs are in place and with the seaport urbanization will get to

everywhere, including the rural communities”, he said.

At Urueoffong Oruko, the PDP governorship candidate who is the immediate past secretary to the state government, told the people that no government completes all development programmes within a tenure, and that since development is dynamic and continuous, he will parley with them to execute projects and programmes in line with their

priorities.
He referred to God as the harbinger of leadership, and sued for their support as he makes to bring more development to their communities.

“In our tenure, we will start developments from the rural areas to link them to the urban centers, and we have already started discussions with your youths and we will look into the requests they

made before me,” Udom assured.
Also speaking at the two venues, Governor Godswill Akpabio urged the people of Oron Federal Constituency to embrace Udom who is from their senatorial district, adding that he was their detribalised son with the right key to the industrialisation of the state and creation of

more job opportunities.
“Those who are trying to deceive you to curry your support, check their records, they have never engaged Oro indigenes even as personal staff, now they pretend they love you more, don't believe them,” the governor said.

In both areas visited, Mr Udom Emmanuel paid traditional homage to the Paramount Rulers of the area, Offong Engr Robin Amasi of Urueffong Oruko and his Oron counterpart Offong Odiong Akan, soliciting for their fatherly blessings.
