Ebere Wabara: A Beastly Writer
It was C. Terry Warner who said that living in the box means being convinced that other people and our circumstances are responsible for our feelings and our helplessness to overcome them. What we can't see when we're in the box is that the way the world appears to us is our projection, and that we are making this projection to justify ourselves in self-betrayal. We cannot see that it's not others' actions but our accusations that result in our feeling offended.”
At a point, a creepy writer would not have anything to write but beastly articles. I'm referring to one Ebere Wabara who has taken it as a stunt to tell vicious lies against the Government of His Excellency, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State.
For reasons not dance to naked with a mad person at the village square I had stayed aloof watching Wabara ridicule himself in the name of article writing. One of his junks was titled “Beastly politicking in Abia” published in The Sun, January 20 2015.
In his confused manner, Wabara babbled, “Recently, Abia First, the campaign organisation of Dr. Alex Otti, governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, wrote an open letter to the Inspector-General of Police “on harassment, intimidation and vandalism in Abia State.” Expectedly, the appeal expressly pointed the finger at the state government for the threat to peaceful existence in the state by willful indulgence in the above summative tripod of imminent cataclysm…”
Wabara continued in his jabbering, “If as Gov. T. A. Orji deludes himself that the opposition in the state is a “paper tiger,” why then do rambunctious agents of government embark on such bohemian assignments to destabilise the swelling oppositional forces and frighten them out of resistance? Such disruptive tendencies only embolden the opposition. In the instant case, government is understandably alarmed that if the APGA candidate is not cut short now, his victory will be landslide. And the only way to checkmate him now is to employ beastly antics…”
In his ghastly way of reasoning, how could Wabara label the governor as the culprit of Otti's unverifiable claim without the appropriate authorities he said that Otti had written to give their verdict? Is Wabara a manager of mischief? Writing that the governor was guilty of the allegation by Otti without a trial at any court of competent jurisdiction has shown that Wabara is among the people that remind us that we are living in cynical times.
Could Matthew Gregory have Wabara at heart when he wrote in his work “Lewis, The Monk” in the following lines?: “Man of an hard heart! Hear me, Proud, Stern, and Cruel! You could have saved me; you could have restored me to happiness and virtue, but would not! You are the destroyer of my Soul; You are my Murderer, and on you fall the curse of my death and my unborn Infant's! Insolent in your yet-unshaken virtue, you disdained the prayers of a Penitent; But God will show mercy, though you show none. And where is the merit of your boasted virtue? What temptations have you vanquished? Coward! You have fled from it, not opposed seduction. But the day of Trial will arrive! Oh! then when you yield to impetuous passions! when you feel that Man is weak, and born to err; When shuddering you look back upon your crimes, and solicit with terror the mercy of your God, Oh! in that fearful moment think upon me! Think upon your Cruelty! Think upon Agnes, and despair of pardon!”
Knowing that Wabara would not stop in his trademark – to use mendacity against Governor Orji, I laugh in my heart whenever I read his accusation against the governor. Jarod Kintz would say in his work, “This Book is Not FOR SALE” that, “His thin accusation hung thick in the air like fog smoking a cigarette.”
Today, you read Wabara writing for the former Governor of Abia State, and tomorrow you read him writing for Otti. Who used the maxim “garbage in garbage out” was not far from Wabara. Sadly, that false and repressed memory really occur. “But always, at moments when his mind was like a blind octopus, squirming in an agony of knife-cuts, she would drop in that accusation.” (Ford Madox Ford “No More Parades”).
In his beastly articles, Wabara defends Otti against the holder of the governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu (PhD), but we have to understand some of the truths that Wabara has been pummeling.
Truth cannot be pummeled. What Wabara has refused to tell the world is that all the governorship aspirants in the state had their campaign vehicles painted with the images of Governor Orji placed along theirs. One observer succinctly captured the song that was on their lips this way: “The slogan for every one of them was (Osinulo says it's me). Almost all the campaign vehicles of Uche Ogah, the commercial vehicles and the tricycles plying the state roads had this inscription, "Osinulo says it's Uche Ogah". We found out then that “Osinulo said it was F.N Nwosu, Emeka Wogu, Emuchay, Acho Nwakanma, Alex Otti and so on.”
According to the source, many complained all the aspirants had done a lot of projects in the state and had a phantom agreement with the governor to 'anoint' them. “Many expressed their anger in many ways, accusing Ochendo of not fulfilling his promise more especially to Emeka Wogu and Alex Otti who had to resign from their plum jobs because of the agreement. Now my question is, what were they all looking for? "ENDORSEMENT". On getting the endorsement, would they have still been seen as stooge?” the observer asked.
The expression continued, “Just because they did not get endorsed, Ochendo has become a bad man, the one that got the endorsement has become a stooge and all his supporters have become enemies of the state. What has changed in Ochendo between the time they were licking his feet for their endorsement and now? Nothing except their personal selfishness.”
