Celebration, As Arikewuyo Weds

It was a celebration of love penultimate weekend as Unilorin 89.3 FM's ace broadcaster, Mr. Abdulgaffar Arikewuyo, tied the nuptial knot with his heartthrob, Dr. Halima Oluwaseyi Gambari, at the Auditorium Park of the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos, Nigeria.

The all inclusive wedding was witnessed by an array of dignitaries from all walks of life, as well as the crème de la crème in the media world. The ceremony attracted also members of the University of Ilorin community led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali (OON), and his wife, Dr. (Mrs.) H. T. Ambali.

Speaking in his capacity as the chairperson of the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor described the groom as a huge blessing to the University of Ilorin and its environs, whose immense contribution to national and international recognition the university has received including its current rating as a world class institution of higher learning can never be overemphasized.

The Vice-Chancellor has said, ''The university of Ilorin today is the first University in Nigeria and I must confess that Abdulgaffar Arikewuyo is one of the leading pillars that has seen the institution to where it is today. He has two caps at the university of Ilorin; one representing the Department of Mass Communication where he takes a job as a Lecturer and the other representing the university of Ilorin FM Radio. I can call him and as people call him “the golden voice of Unilorin FM.”

Professor Ambali noted that ''Abdulgaffar has been interviewing people both within and outside the country. Today is a new chapter in his own life and I pray and hope, he will write an interesting chapter in his own marriage book.”

The Vice-Chancellor added that “The bride, who is a Medical graduate of the University, is now going into the next chapter of writing a book on how to become a mother, wife and in-law and I also pray for you to be able to write a chapter that is worth reading years to come''.

Meanwhile, the Students Union President of the University of Ilorin, Comrade Yakub Ishowo speaking on behalf of all students of the university, chanted praises on the vice-chancellor for being a fatherly figure, he however poured encomium on the groom, while wishing him a blissful marital journey ahead.

The high profile ceremony featured a photo session with the bridal-train as enthusiasts, in a bid to catch a glimpse of the rewarding moment where entertained to a photo session with the couples. It was all a crescendo of excitement as various sumptuous meals and assorted drinks were served to the comfort of the gathering. Also featuring in the series was a hit of electrifying musical songs which saw the DJ dishing out great songs to the delight of the crowd.

The wife of the Vice-Chancellor supervised the cutting of the wedding cake, while Dr. (Mrs.) Saudat Abdulbaqi of the Department of Mass Communication conducted the exchange of wedding rings.

The wedding ceremony attracted friends, families, well-wishers, traditional rulers, members of the University of Ilorin community and other dignitaries, including the Chairman, Editorial Board, Unilorin Bulletin and a former Acting Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr Lukman Azeez.
