SAN FRANCISCO, January 11, (THEWILL) – With about four weeks to the general elections, unidentified persons early Sunday morning bombed the secretariat of the ruling party in Rivers State, All Progressives Congress (APC), in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The 3-storey property was hit by multiple explosions which the chairman of the APC in the local government, Mr. Christian Asifamaka, said occurred at about 3.15am.

Asifamaka, who took journalists on a tour of the damaged secretariat said no lives were lost in the attack.

The Rivers State Police Command said it has launched an investigation into the bombing.

Meanwhile, the governorship candidate of the party, Dr Dakuku Peterside, has condemned the attack on the secretariat.

Peterside told reporters when he visited the secretariat to ascertain the level of damage caused by the bombing that the main opposition party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) orchestrated the attack.

He urged the police to apprehend those behind the attack saying that members of the PDP in the area have chosen violence as a means to politicking ahead of the polls.
