SAN FRANCISCO, December 22, (THEWILL) – Activities at the Delta State Broadcasting Service (DBS) in Asaba and Warri have been paralysed following the failure of the state government to pay the workers the weigh-in allowance approved by the Federal Government since 2012.

The shutting down of DBS stations in Asaba and Warri came a few days after staff of the state-owned Pointer Newspaper also down tools to protest the failure of the state government to pay their overtime allowance package.

The national body of Radio, Television, Theater and Art Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU) had, in a statement signed by its Assistance General Secretary, Aishatu Isah Dammisah, directed all states of the federation where the governors were yet to implement the Weigh-in allowance to go on indifinite strike after the body had suspended its three days national strike.

It was learnt that both RATTAWU and NUJ Delta Broadcasting Service chapters which also joined in the industrial action had approached the state gvernment on several occasions over the vexed issue but the state government had continually failed in its response.

Sources said that both unions have given the state government a 21-day ultimatum which is expected to expire on December 24 to resolve the impasse.
