U.I. hosts Ariyomo Scholarship Programme

The annual scholarship grants in support of Ondo State students in higher institutions being sponsored by Engr. Tunji Ariyomo was on Saturday 20th of December 2015 moved to the University of Ibadan.

Dignitaries at the event included the guest speaker, Prof. Iwayemi Akinbolaji Philip of the Centre for Petroleum, Energy Economics and Law of the university, the Patron of the National Association of Ondo State Students, Prof. Nelson Fashina, Prof. Adenike Osofisan of the Computer Science Department, Chairman of the Ondo State Wealth Creation Agency, Mrs. Bola Ogunfunmiloye and Evangelist Olumuyiwa Asagunla Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Youth Affairs.

Other dignitaries at the event were a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Oludare Ogunlana (Above Jordan) who represented Hon. Kingsley Kuku, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger-Delta and Barrister Odunola Sandra Ogunmola who represented the scholarship sponsor Engr. Ariyomo.

The scholarship awards were presented to the beneficiaries by Mrs. Ogunfunmiloye while Prof. Fashina moderated the event as Chairman of the occasion.

The event was organized by the University of Ibadan Chapter of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) under the leadership of its President Mr. Apara Opeyemi Samuel and the former NAOSS President Mr. Olasunkanmi Olawale.

Some of the 2014 beneficiaries included Omosowone Grace, Aladesae Adesina, Obaado Oluwaseun, Olaniyi Ifedayo and Lemikan Sunday.

A student of the university, Damilola Claudius, thanked the sponsor for the lives he had touched.

Prof. Fashina appreciated the sponsor for specifically targeting needy or indigent students while Mrs. Ogunfunmiloye thanked Engr. Ariyomo on behalf of youths of Ondo State and used the opportunity to highlight some of the high impact programmes of the Olusegun Mimiko government in Ondo State.

The first edition of the annual scholarship scheme sponsored by Tunji Light Ariyomo (TLA) took place in 2001 at the Akure South Local Government multipurpose hall and had in attendance the late governor of Ondo State, Chief Adebayo Adefarati, who was the Special Guest of Honor.
