Boko Haram: Lt Gen T Y Danjuma visited over 400,000 IDPs in Yola

Former Minister of defense during Chief Olushegun Obasanjo regime Rt Gen TY Danjuma led a Presidential Committee of Victims Support Funds, yesterday in Yola where over 400,000 victims of Boko Haram received millions of relief materials.

The Executive Director of the funds,Mr Sunday Ochebe said “the initiative from the federal government was to bring succors to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs),who were suffering untold hardship, caused by the Boko Haram insurgents, saying no amount of donations made to the victims is either too much or too small”.

The committee described the onslaughts on the victims in a number of towns and villages in Adamawa State as unfortunate, undeserved violence, as a thousands of people have lost their dire ones, families separated and many people displaced from their ancestral homes,especially in the Northeast zone of the country.

The Executive Director Secretary , disclosed that the funds has started to cushion the effects of the hardship suffered by the victims from the funds raised redeemed pledges made by highly spirited Nigerians that desired to improved capacities of the victims.

He said the committee has for a start decided to distribute the relief materials to the IDPs through the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Muslim Council of Adamawa State and not those formally housed in camps but living with members of the communities.

The Chairman Presidential Committee on Victims Support Funds,Lt.General T.Y Danjuma,urged more Nigerians to continue to make contributions to the victims who were suffering untold hardship in the various parts of the country,especially in the Northeast of the country.

The former Chief of Army Staff,who was represented by Mallam Alkasum Abdulkadir,said the distribution of the relief materials would be extended to victims that had suffered the same fate in Borno and Yobe States in the Northeast of the country.

In the same vein,the Executive Secretary of the Victims Support Funds,Ambassador John A Gana,said the committee was in Yola,in line with the assignment given the committee that was inaugurated on 16 July,2014, to cushion the effects of the unwarranted hardship suffered by the victims,appealing to all and sundry to support the initiative of Mr President
