PDP primaries: Abia alleges plot to cause mayhem

By The Citizen

The Abia State government has raised the alarm over alleged plots by 'certain elements' to cause mayhem in the state tomorrow when the ruling Peoples Democratic Party pla plans to conduct primary elections for its House of Assembly aspirants nationwide.

Special Adviser, Political to the Governor Theodore Orji, Chief Ama Abraham, who raised the alarm at a press conference on Friday in Umuahia, said government had uncovered plot by some unscrupulous elements who he added were not members of PDP.

According to him, those behind the plot 'just want to create confusion and portray PDP in a bad light but their strategy is belated.'

He warned members of the public who have no business with the primaries  to steer clear of the exercise venue  'as security agents have been put on red alert to deal with anyone found fomenting troubles.'

Abraham called on aspirants to put the interest of the people above their parochial interests, urging the eventual winners to be magnanimous in victory and losers to accept defeat in the spirit of  sportsmanship .

He further warned politicians to restrain from inflammable remarks capable of setting Nigeria on fire and truncating her young democracy.

The Governor's Aide took special exception with a recent media comment credited to  the national leader of the All Progressive Congress and former Governor of Lagos State, Chief Bola Tinubu , where he allegedly said 'Nigerians should do everything possible including using witchcraft to remove PDP from power in 2015.'

He expressed shock that such 'appalling and regrettable' remarks with far-reaching implications could come from a statesman of Tinubu's status.

Abraham urged security agencies to rise to the occasion by inviting for questioning, anyone no matter how highly placed, that makes any utterances capable of derailing Nigeria's democracy.
