OPEC: TUC, PENGASSAN urge Diezani to be good ambassador

By The Citizen

Some organised labour unions have congratulated the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, on her appointment as the first female OPEC President and urged her to be a good ambassador of Nigeria. Comrade Bobboi Kaigama, the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Mr Babatunde Oke, the Public Relations Officer Petroleum Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), were reacting to the development in separate interviews  in Abuja on Friday. Alison-Madueke was elected President of OPEC at the ongoing 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria, coming at a crucial time of dwindling crude oil price. This development, Kaigama said, made it imperative for her to articulate effective measures to arrest the situation. 'We congratulate her and urge her to be a good ambassador of Nigeria because she is assuming office at a critical time when the oil price is dwindling. 'So, we expect that she will quickly get her acts together to start working,' Oke, on his part, said that her appointment was a good one for Nigeria, especially being the first female OPEC president. 'It is a good sign for Nigeria and a female for that matter as OPEC president. 'We hope that she will be there to boost Nigeria's image and interest as well as find effective ways of arresting the dwindling oil price,' he said. Vanguard
