ASABA – As the clock winds down to the governorship primaries of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), an Urhobo leader, speaking on behalf of all Urhobos and Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), urged all Urhobos to work with their daughter, Dr. Mrs. Esther Kelicha Uduehi, as she aspires to be the first elected female governor in Nigeria. High Chief Glory Efemeni made this call at the formal declaration of Dame Uduehi is Asaba.

According to him, since Dr. Uduehi is Urhobo, Urhobo should work with her. The statement received wide applause from the mammoth crowd present at The Cenotaph, Asaba GRA to witness the mother of all declarations with a jam-packed crowd.

It should be recalled that during Dr. Uduehi's consultative visit to UPU leadership last month, the President-General of UPU, Chief Omene had unequivocally stated that Uduehi has no problem and that she is their daughter. Chief J.O. Omene (JP) stated that, while receiving the former Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non Formal Education, at his country home in Mosogar, Ethiope West Local Government Area.

At that meeting, UPU had been emphatic in stating that “We can accept our own children and you are one of our own children. If UPU is insisting that the next governor of Delta State must come from Delta Central, are you not from Delta Central? Is your mother not from Orogun?

Can we now say she is no more our daughter because she got married to a man from Ukwuani Local Government Area? No. She is still our daughter and if your mother is our daughter what are you? I do not think you have any problem in your quest to becoming governor because if UPU says you are our daughter, you are.”

UPU's position was reinforced by the presence at the declaration of High Chief Felix Omene, High Chief America Oghenedoro and High Chief Irevwi Monson.
