Alison-Madueke emerges OPEC first female president

Nigeria's Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deziani Alison-Madueke, has been elected the President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries. Alison-Madueke is the first female president of OPEC.

Alison-Madueke was elected on Thursday at the 166th General Meeting of the body in Vienna, Austria. She replaces Libya's Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, who held forth till she emerged. She was before her election the alternate president of OPEC. Her tenure will be for one year. The development has been confirmed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
