A pro-Democracy Non Governmental Organization-HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA [HURIWA] has urged Nigerians to collectively support the current counter insurgency and counter terrorism campaign against the armed Islamic rebels in the North East saying the current President Dr Good luck Jonathan-led Federal administration surely means well for the corporate protection of the territorial integrity of Nigeria as a united political entity. HURIWA said it was illogical and irrational to link the Presidency to the sponsorship of terrorism that this same government has spent quality time and monumental resources to fight. The group said that logically nothing can both be and not be at the same time.
In a statement signed jointly by the National Coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director Miss Zainab Yusuf, the Rights group-HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA [HURIWA] challenged the political class of all affiliations to form a collective bipartisan counter terrorism platform to support the Nigerian military to wage relentless and successful counter terrorism battles against the armed terrorists primarily because what is at stake is the corporate existence of Nigeria which surpasses mundane political bickering and divisiveness. The group has therefore urged the office of the National security Adviser and the office of the Political and multi-party advisory teams in the Presidency to jointly come up with a nationalistic and patriotic meeting platform with all credible political and civil rights stakeholders to continuously brainstorm on bipartisan anti-terrorism strategies for Nigeria as one united nation.
HURIWA said from investigations and findings currently in the public domain it has emerged that the current first family [Dr Jonathan and Mrs Patience] is among the few high profile Nigerian politicians of national influence that has publicly challenged any authority or investigative body to show evidence to contradict their claim that the President currently maintains no offshore bank accounts oversees or magnificent real estates or indeed any type of housing assets in Europe, America or Asian continents. The Rights group therefore stated that for the fact that no contrary position on this public claims made by the office of the Special Media office of the Nigerian Presidency has emerged for nearly two years running, it therefore follows that such a near-perfect Nigerian family can therefore not be linked with such sinister plots as to lead to the disintegration of the territorial entity of Nigeria in an administration that is supervised by this same family.
HURIWA stated that it has become imperative for all independent voices in the country to loudly make their positions known regarding the wrong- headed and substantially unsubstantiated but wicked allegations in some political quarters that the current President Dr Good luck Jonathan was remotely or otherwise connected with the sponsorship and/or support for the on-going bloody terrorism by the armed Islamic rebels.
The HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA [HURIWA] has also challenged all the aspirants to the various national political offices in the coming national elections to proffer effective and workable counter terrorism strategies transparently and in such an open fashion that the top hierarchy of the Nigerian armed forces can derive some guides and implementable clues as to how to achieve better and quick- win successes against these blood cuddling terrorists rather than play partisan politics with the violent and vicious attacks by these murderous terrorists targeted against soft civilian and governmental institutional targets.
HURIWA stated thus: ”We have meticulously researched through the body of claims by the various notable political actors regarding the best way out of our national security nightmares and the near- empty rhetoric bandied about by politicians who seek to gain from the misfortunes of poor victims of these incessant brutal killings all across the North East and we have realised that the current Federal administration has about the best counter terrorism campaign but there are certain systemic issues that need to be sufficiently tackled for the comprehensive successes to be actualised. The Federal Government must tackle the issue of corruption and faulty procurement mechanisms within the defence and Policing sectors with a view to recovering the humongous amount of money stolen and diverted to private pockets by military Generals over the years. Then all saboteurs within the military settings undermining the counter terrorism war must be fished out and prosecuted effectively. All the suspected terrorists arrested must be thoroughly investigated, science- based body of evidence generated and quality prosecution teams set up by the office of the Federal Attorney General and Justice Minister in the competent courts of law so all the real culprits are sternly punished. There should be no half- measures in the prosecution of terrorists and masterminds of these violence. Government must never concede to granting soft -landing to hard-core terrorism masterminds so as to preserve the sanctity of our constitution.”
