Be Agents of Transformation, First Lady Charge Nights of the Anglican Communion

The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dame Dr. Patience Jonathan, has charged Knights of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, to act as agents of transformation by ministering to the faithful so that the transformation programmes of the government will permeate all parts of the country. Dame Jonathan made the call yesterday in an address delivered on her behalf by Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano, during the Joint Council of Knights, Anglican Communion Delegates Conference holding in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The First Lady said that the theme of the Delegates Conference “Occupy till I come,” taken from the Bible passage of St Luke is apt for Nigeria which is undergoing transformation and require all hands on deck especially men and women of faith who are well placed to provide leadership at all levels.

Dame Jonathan assured the Joint Council of Knights of the commitment of President Jonathan to total transformation all aspects of national life, and urged for equal commitment of all Nigerians to enable the nation flourish together in the years ahead. She prayed to God to give wisdom to the Anglican Council of Knights throughout the conference to come out with useful suggestions so that conditions necessary for healing can take place across the country.

Chief Mrs. obiano also conveyed the apologies of her husband the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano for inability to attend due to an important engagement in Abuja, but assured the Anglican knights that his administration is does not favour denominations, but is rather committed to delivering on all his election promise to Ndi Anambra.

Earlier the new President of the Joint Council of Knights, Sir Joseph Ilonze, who was enthroned during the conference as the 19th President, said in his acceptance speech that President Jonathan has done well and deserves a second term in office. He also noted that during the last gubernatorial election in Anambra no one believed Anambra would be safe but governor promised to improve security of lives and property, and has delivered that since coming into office to the satisfaction of all in Anambra and called on the people to support the governor to continue doing well.
