Presidential declaration: A misplaced judgment.
Let me quickly say this, i am not an APC member. I am not even a politician in the first place. So nobody should accuse me of being influence. I write base on my own personal conviction that the presidential declaration for a second term in office by the president was badly done because the timing was wrong.
On December 12, 2012 in America, a young man visited a school and shot 26 people. 20 of them children. The next day Barrack Obama himself and not his media aide or spokesperson gave a speech about the issue. He was able to shed at tear or two. He displayed empathy. It will be unfair for me to bore you with his lengthy emotional speech but the crux of the issue was that he spoke to Americans not as a president but as a parent who has lost a love one. Coming back home, the president declaring for a second term in office just few hours after 36 boys lost their lives in Yobe state was unfair, selfish and insensitive. Modern day leadership involves putting the people first. It involves fighting for the people and making personal sacrifice on their behalf.
Leaders like Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, Lee Kuan Yew and Martin Luther king have at one point or another went the extra mile for the people they lead. Whereas president Jonathan has a bovine attitude to the affairs of the people, yet he compares himself with this set of world class leaders in the adverts that we are now accustomed to now on our television sets. A model always follows its pattern. I think our president will do well to fully imitate and emulate this word class statesmen and Nigeria will be the better of it.
Nigeria will truly be great if the insurgents are wipe out from our country and everyone including the president will go about their convivial gathering without pricking our consciences and Reuben Akpati will not be making a needless speech.This act of the president "celebrating" immediately after a catastrophe has happened twice now. The kano political rally came immediately after the Nyanya bomb blast occurred. And mr president was present.
Consequently, Nigerians need a compassionate president, an emphatic leader that will understand the significance of the price of garri to the ordinary Nigerian, that will be interested in the prices of kerosene, petrol and tomatoes and the burden of being a pensioner in this country. The president in his speech claims he sought the face of God, consultation with his family and the voices of the people as the catalyst behind his coming again for a second term. If i may ask, mr president. Which voices did you hear? Certainly not the parents of the chibok girls whose daughters are still missing, certainly, not the old pensioners still awaiting their pensions and not the ordinary Nigerian who is struggling to buy kerosene and garri and onions at the local market. It is definitely the voice of the PDP members and others who benefits from your government. Mr president.
Whatever president we get come 2015, he should be sensitive, empathic to our problems, our hopes and aspirations as a people and a country. I wish Ebele Jonathan Goodluck well in the hurdles ahead. It is unfortunate i do not have enough money, i could have contributed financially like others for your purchase of the presidential form.
