DELTA 2015: THE TASK AHEAD

By Eberechi Kennedy

Ahead of the PDP governorship primaries scheduled for the 29th of November, 2014, the task of producing who will fly the Party's flag and possibly take over from the incumbent Gov. Uduaghan is one that is onerous. Though there was no written agreement over Delta State leadership over the years, but the fact remains that the social justice pendulum and the will of the masses swing favourably and positively towards Delta North senatorial zone producing the next governor of the state. This is because it is depressing that since the creation of Delta State, only Delta South and Delta Central had occupied the Delta State governorship seat from Olorogun Felix Ibru to Chief James Ibori and the incumbent Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.

No doubt, as 2015 draws closer, many high-flying Deltans are enthusiastically showing intense interest of contesting for Delta state governorship election, but some of these so-called aspirants have taken an unconvinced method of introducing kangaroo empowerment programmes to win the hearts of the innocent electorates. Some of these political contestants have no credibility of contesting for 2015 but decided to make the state ungovernable and intractable, if the need arises. Some of these political aspirants must be thoroughly scrutinized and examined before accepting them to come out for 2015.

Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Juliet Olejeme is a woman of national significance and influence and most analysts are finding it difficult to write her off going by her unprecedented political profile and her closeness to the most powerful segment of the ruling national party and because of the fact that she is one of the most fiercest loyalist of the PDP to have indicated interest to run for the office of state governor not only in Delta State but in Nigeria as a whole. More so, she hails from the Delta North Senatorial zone which has never produced the state governor since inception. So the social justice pendulum and the will of the masses swing favourably and positively towards Dr. (Mrs.) Olejeme and her other compatriots from her Senatorial zone that have indicated interest to run in the next year's election for the office of the state governor of Delta State.

Again, as at today, all the relevant stake holders in Delta state and beyond have endorsed Dr. (Mrs.) Ngozi Juliet Olejeme for the Governorship position of the state come 2015 as she seems to be riding on the peak of the wish of the people for real change come 2015. Going by her antecedents, if elections are properly conducted as free and fair, Dr. (Mrs.) Olejeme is unbeatable.

As a matter of fact, the PDP should not give the opposition the chance to leverage on any political miscalculation of any sort to take over the state in 2015 as imposing an unpopular candidate might swing the pendulum to the opposition during the general elections in February, 2015. It is time for the present governor to hand over to the choice of Deltans not cabals as nationally, the pendulum is swinging towards the emergence of Ngozi Olejeme as the PDP governorship candidate and possibly the next governor of the state.
