Bayelsa Govt Urges Traditional Rulers to Monitor Projects in their Domains

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon.  Seriake  Dickson on Friday urged traditional rulers to complement government's developmental efforts by monitoring ongoing projects and other activities in their domains in order to fast track the overall development of the state.

 
Governor Dickson stated this at a meeting he held with first class traditional rulers at its new secretariat complex in Yenagoa, the state capital.

 
Describing the monarchs as agents of peace and the watchdogs of society, he commended them for their collective efforts at sustaining the prevailing peace and stability in their areas and attributed the administration's achievements  to  the existing peace and serene atmosphere in the state.

 
He particularly, urged the Royal Fathers to assist in checking criminal activities such as kidnapping, sea piracy and other relate crimes, by working closely with the security agencies to put an end to the menace.   

 
His words: “Traditional rulers should sensitize their subjects on the need for peace and security as well as monitor the activities of contractors, civil servants and health workers as you are the paramount rulers and Kings of your communities and clans.

 
“The restoration government has an agenda for peace, security and development, which our Royal Fathers are aware, especially the massive infrastructural development going on in your domains.

Expressing his administration's resolve to empower the traditional institution, in view of its role in nation building, Governor Dickson said, a bill is currently before the State Assembly to reposition the institution to enable perform its duties optimally to the society.

 
Responding to the issues raised by the Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, King Godwin Igodo, the Governor assured the traditional rulers that, a convenient date would be fixed for the commissioning of their new secretariat complex for it to be put to use.

 
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional rulers' Council, King Godwin Igodo had intimated Governor Dickson of some of the challenges facing the council.

 
He pleaded with the state government to look into their monthly stipends, with the aim of reviewing them upwards, in line with current trends in the country.
