CRESCENT VARSITY APPOINTS GBAJABIAMILA AS NEW VICE CHANCELLOR

The former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Crescent University, Abeokuta Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila has been appointed the new vice chancellor of the institution.

Gbajabiamila took over from the former helmsman, Prof. Kehinde Okeleye who assumed the position of the institution's vice chancellor about four years ago.

An information release by the public relations officer, Idris Katib, noted that Prof. Okeleye's tenure ended in October 2014.

Katib observed that Prof. Okeleye who assumed the position of vice chancellor early 2011 would return to Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta from where he took a leave of absence to serve Crescent University.

The new vice chancellor, Prof. Gbajabiamila had his education in London, from primary through university.He obtained his first degree in Microbiology from the University of London in the 70's and remained in the university as a research student.He later bagged his PhD in Virology in 1984.

He was a research fellow before his first appointment within the University of London, sojourning there for over twenty years and rising to the rank of Head of Extra Mural Science.

Prof. Gbajabiamila who was later head-hunted for associate director in another London university where he had academic responsibility for part-time students, became visiting professor in 2010/2011 academic session when he was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor at Crescent University, Abeokuta.

On his new position, Prof. Gbajabiamila observed that ' it is the greatest honour to take helms of affairs and contribute to the development of Crescent University, a unique institution in the landscape of Nigerian university system striving for moral and academic excellence'.

Gbajabiamila stressed that although the new job was an onerous one, he would tow the line of success of his predecessor to take the university to greater heights.

At a send-forth programme organized for the outgone vice chancellor, the Founder of the university described Prof. Okeleye as energetic and industrious leader who worked assiduously to ensure that many of the institution's programmes were accredited.

In recognition of his contribution to the development of the university, a new hall of residence was named after Prof. Hassan Kehinde Okeleye to immortalise him.
