Enugu 2015: PDP EXCO holds extra-ordinary meeting today

The State Executive Committee of the Enugu State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will today hold an extra ordinary meeting, THE CITIZEN has learnt.

According to a reliable source at the state party secretariat who does not want to be named, the SEC meeting will hold by 10am today at the Party house.

“The Extraordinary meeting will hold today by 10am at the instance of over two-third members who requested that the meeting should be convened,” he said.

THE CITIZEN was reliably informed that as at 6pm on Thursday, over 80 of the 109 SEC members have endorsed the request, thereby making the meeting statutory according to the party's constitution.

A member of the SEC told our correspondent that one of the items on the agenda for the meeting is to appoint and adopt an acting chairman of the state chapter of the party following the resignation of Chief Vita Abba who was said to be contesting for the Nsukka/Igbo Eze South Federal Constituency in 2015.

It was said that the Chief Ikeje Asogwa who was appointed to replace Abba on Saturday last week was rejected by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party.

A statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the PDP-NWC took the decision at its meeting held on Wednesday, October 28, 2014.

The statement read in part thus: “Following the earlier resignation of the Chairmen of Enugu and Delta state chapters of the PDP, the National Working Committee (NWC) has directed the Deputy Chairmen of the chapters to immediately take over the affairs of the party in their respective states.

'The NWC at its meeting on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 nullified the appointment of state chairmen for Enugu and Delta and directed the deputy chairmen to convene a meeting within two weeks to elect new chairmen in accordance with the provisions of the PDP constitution.

“Furthermore, the NWC assures that the agreement reached with all the governorship aspirants in Adamawa state, zoning the governorship position to Adamawa Central will be fully respected. Accordingly, the NWC expects that only aspirants from Adamawa Central will present themselves for the governorship primaries ahead of the 2015 general elections.

“The national leadership promises that there will be free, fair and transparent congresses in the state in keeping with the party's strict adherence to the dictates of the principles of internal democracy and the PDP constitution.”

THE CITIZEN was also told that the party will at today’s meeting in Enugu streamline the strategies for tomorrow’s ward congresses.
