Edo State Police Command has confirmed the Saturday night bomb attack on an office bordering the state Government House, Benin.

Pointblanknews.com had broken the story on the attack which was reportedly carried out with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The state commissioner for information, Mr. Loius Odion had Sunday claimed that no such attack occurred anywhere near the Government House, Benin. He described the story as “patently false.”

However, a statement by the State Police Command, Sunday, said it ” received information that at about 10: 30 p.m. on Saturday that there was an explosion at Dennis Osadebey Avenue, Benin City.''

The statement was signed by Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Ejiroro Ahwara.

Ahwara said men of the Special Anti-Bomb Squad and patrol vehicles were immediately drafted to the scene of attack.

According to the police spokesman,  preliminary investigation indicated that items suspected to be Improvised Explosive Device (IED), made up of two tiger batteries of 15 volt each connected to long wire, was thrown into the mini-estate from outside.

He confirmed that ceiling boards at the security post in the estate as well as a part of the main gate were destroyed by the device, which also dug a small hole at the entrance gate.

He further confirmed the story by Pointblanknews.com that no casualty was recorded, stressing, “luckily, no life was lost.

The Command disclosed that “the IED used in the attack has been recovered by the Bomb Disposal Unit for analysis, while some suspects have been arrested”.
