Enugu 2015: Ex – LG chairmen rally round Ugwuanyi

By The Citizen

A group of people under the aegis of Former Local Government Chairmen in Enugu State has thrown its weight behind the candidacy of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi,  for the 2015 governorship election in the state.

Speaking at an interactive forum organised by the group in Enugu over the weekend,  Mr. Frank Anioma,  former local government chairman of Nkanu East LG under the Peoples Democratic Party, stated that Ugwuanyi is one of their own for having won the party primaries for Udenu LG over 15 years ago but was asked to surrender the mandate for another candidate which he wilfully did for the interest of the party.

“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s my pleasure to stand before you to speak about a man whom providence has shown that if God has not said that it is finished,  it has not finished. This is a man that was asked to step down for another candidate when it was clear that he won the primaries for his local government election but see his political status today which has risen beyond imagination.

“God’s willing,  you will win the party primary and subsequently win the governorship election in 2015 and that will be a landmark event in our lives as former Chairmen of different local governments in Enugu State as one of our own in the history of the state will emerge as governor, ” he said.

He eulogied Ugwuanyi for his outstanding performance in the Federal House of Representatives and his efforts to ensure that dividends of  democracy reached his people both collectively and individually.

“We pray for wisdom on your head.  You are “Ogbo ogu” (man who separates fight). No one wants to fight against Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi because he is salt. He relates with both the rich and the poor. He is one man that is very popular in the state and beyond. And no one has come out to say that Ifeanyi has wronged him or her in any way. Our collective prayer is that God will crown your endeavours and continue to give you wisdom and grace to navigate this phase successfully.

“All of us gathered here have come to pledge our loyalty and readiness to work with you in whatever capacity you deem feat. We are critical stakeholders in our great party and our support is for you,” he stated.

In his response,  Ugwuanyi thanked the group for their support and asked them to continue to pay for him and the state.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank God for the lives of all the stakeholders of our great party. I will like to thank you for your kind words and I cannot thank you enough for offering to support me in the project but what I ask is for you to continue to emember me in prayers. I will not disappoint Ndi Enugu by God's grace,” he stated.
