The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Dr. Chinelo Anohu- Amazu as Director General of the Pension Commission.

It also confirmed the appointment of Captain Muhktar Usman as Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority ( NCAA).

President Goodluck Jonathan had in July forwarded Anohu-Amazu name via a letter to President of the Senate, David Mark, wherein he said the appointment was in consonance with the provisions of the Pension Reform Act 2004 as amended.

Anohu-Amazu has been serving as Director-General of Pencom in acting capacity since December 2012 when the tenure of the former D.G. M. K. Ahmad ended.

Her likely appointment then stirred controversy because of the requirements of years of experience for the Director General of Pencom as 20 years was the required years of working experience.

However, the Senate lowered the age requirement from 20 to 15 years when it passed the Pencom Bill amendment into law, thus paving the way for Anohu – Amazu appointment.

While congratulating Anohu-Amazu on her confirmation, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu urged her to add value to the Pension industry and ensure pensioners are paid their entitlement

Meanwhile, six months after the major shake-up in the aviation sector which resulted the sack of Fola Akinkuotu as the Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Civil Authority (NCAA), President Jonathan has appointed Captain Muhktar Usman as the new DG of NCAA.

President Jonathan had two weeks ago written a letter to the Senate requesting the confirmation of Usman as DG NCAA

It will be recalled that the sack of the former DG NCAA and some aviation bosses was due to the fallout of the bullet proof car purchase by the former Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah

The letter read in part : 'The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is one of the parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Aviation. By the Provision of section 8(1) of the Civil Aviation ( Repeal and Enactment) Act 2006, the appointment of the Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority is subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In this connection, following the recent reorganisation in the Federal Ministry of Aviation, I have decided to appoint Captain Muhktar Usman as Director General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority .

“In accordance with the provision of section 8(1). Of the civil aviation ( Repeal and Enactment), I hereby present Captain Muhktar Usman for the kind consideration of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.'
