2015: Over 1m Signatures Collected At TAN Rally As North East PDP Endorses Jonathan

SAN FRANCISCO, September 21, (THEWILL) - As the race for next year's general elections gathers momentum, over one million Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members from the North-East on Saturday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the Presidential election.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, disclosed this at the North-East zonal rally of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) held in Gombe.

TAN, which organised the rally tagged “Peacebuilding and Prayer Rally,” has been championing the call for President Jonathan's re-election during the 2015 general elections.

While presenting the signatures of 1,124, 956 persons that endorsed President Jonathan for the 2015 elections at the rally, Senator Anyim assured that the North-East would continue to enjoy democratic dividends.

The SGF also presented the relief materials donated by TAN to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the zone.

'The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) are not only asking the people of the North-East to support Jonathan. They are also encouraging good governance. I am also pleased to announce that the people of the North-East are in the heart of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. It is on his behalf that TAN have decided to donate some relief materials in recognition of their present circumstances.' Anyim stated while donating the relief materials.

Receiving the items on behalf of the other governors in the zone, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe expressed gratitude to TAN and President Jonathan, assuring that the items would be judiciously used as intended by the donors.

Others who spoke at the rally praised the gallantry of the Nigerian security forces in tackling the security challenge in the troubled North Zone as they expressed optimism that the Boko Haram insurgncy in the region would soon be over.

They also praised President Jonathan for transforming the country and pleaded with Nigerians to throw their weight behind President Jonathan in the forthcoming elections.

'We are here for prayer, we are here to rally support for President Jonathan and indeed show appreciation to him for all the good things he has done for this country in general and the North-East in particular,' the Minister for Transport, Idris Umar, said.

Also speaking at the rally, the Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, said 'The people of Borno state hereby thank President Jonathan for his continued support to us in this our challenging period. The security challenge we are facing will soon be a thing of the past because of his effort in curbing it.'

The rally, which also offered special prayers for the peace and stability of the zone and Nigeria, had in attendance, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Governors, Ministers and other political office holders and stakeholders from Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe States.
