As the clamour for the 2015 general elections for various capacities and levels of governance across the country edges into an intense climax, the scene appears viable with gladiators, associates and interest groups raising individual stakes for common interest to thrive. In Benue State the political scenario appear even intense, likely owing to its strategic position and relevance in the national political space. Yet the Benue North-East Senatorial Zone seem to have taken the centre stage with its unique political flair usually portraying a picturesquare full of intrigues, maneuvers, uncertainties and its peculiar calibre of principal players involved.

While the race is practically between the duo of incumbent Senator Barnabas Gemade and the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rt. Hon. Dr. Gabriel Suswam, both of the PDP family; the latter's chances appears to be increasingly brewing higher; transversing the length and breadth of the Senatorial Zone as days and months thicken towards 2015.

Recently, a renowned political interest group from Benue North-East Senatorial District, Christened the Zone –A visionaries courageously rose to carve into the political space of the zone by declaring its unflinching support for the governor's ambition, whom they described as the unmatched candidate judging by his vast achievements as a former Federal parliamentarian and a two-term governor of the state.

Led by its President, Mr Atom James Terfa, the group widely acknowledge in the zone as a group with vast command of followership cutting across the seven Local Governments in the Senatorial District made its position known shortly after items worth thousands of Naira were donated to two hospitals in Adikpo, the headquarters of Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State. They insisted that Governor Suswam deserved to be  returned to the upper chambers of the National Assembly having carved a niche earlier in politics at the age of 32 as a Federal legislator during which period the latter's constituents experienced a better lot through the Dr. Suswam's viable representation.

The group maintained that many factors were in favour of their principal, ranging from a tract record of achievements as a Federal Legislator and as governor, and the recent favour granted the governor by the people of Kwande by loaning him the Senate seat, in addition to the governor's commitment, zeal, and tact to consistently give the people of Benue State a facelift never to have been witnessed in recent times.

President of the Zone-A Visionaries, Mr. Atom, in company of the group's Secretary, Hon. Agba John and a top executive of the group, Hon. Donglas Mzughga Tseemga while speaking to our correspondents, recounted the vast achievements of the governor, ranging from infrastructural development, economic prosperity, youth empowerment and social development. The group equally contended that 'honour should be given to whom honour is due', alluding that, Suswam has been tested over the years and has performed creditably well, and that is why the elders, Traditional rulers, party faithful and the youth of Kwande Local Government decided to loan the Senate seat to the incumbent governor.

“…we feel that 'whom the cap fits, let him wear it'. Suswam has done creditably well and we feel as a group that, if he has done this much for the 23 Local Governments in the state, then he can even do better with a stream of just 7 local governments in the Senatorial Zone”.

Mr. Atom James equally gave insight on the group's noble drive to impact humanity as demonstrated during their recent humanitarian visits to the two Hospitals in Adikpo (General Hospital Adikpo and Holy Child Adikpo). “The motive behind our Association is to impact mankind by channeling our meager resources to aid the less privileged and downtrodden who may not be able to access the governor's benevolence”. He continued, ”the governor is a humane leader. His desire is always to reach people at whatever level with the aim of enriching and empowering them. Those of us who are privileged to come close to the governor on one on one basis felt that whatever patronage we enjoy from His Excellency should in turn be channeled to benefit the less privileged, particularly those at the rural areas. For instance, it would be practical wisdom to say that if the governor empowers me with a million Naira, it is then onus on me and the Association to channel 85 – 90 percent of such an amount for the good of humanity and not apply them for my personal use”.

“That is why we as people of like minds came together to extend the governor's goodwill to majority of the people and abstain ourselves from individual selfish acts of most people who found themselves close to the governor, but have unfortunately refused to extend the governor's goodwill to the supposed targets. That is the real vision of the Suswam visionaries”.

To match words with actions, the visionaries recently donated items in the range of buckets, mosquito nets, toiletries, soaps and food items to hundreds of Hospital patients at the General Hospital Adikpo and Holy Child Hospital Adikpo. Hospital bills were also settled as part of the group's genuine efforts to positively touch humanity.
