SAN FRANCISCO, September 18, (THEWILL) - Nigeria's Defence Headquarters has denied reports suggesting that Major-General Abubakar Mohammed, the recalled General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, Borno State, has been discretely retired from service.

The top officer was recalled following a mutiny by several soldiers under his command. 12 of the soldiers have been convicted and sentenced to death while a few were discharged from service.

Since his call in May 2014 to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, General Mohammed's future in the army has remained uncertain, as he is yet to be re-assigned.

'The former GOC of 7 Division has not been retired as being propagated by the Media. The General is still in active service as at today,' a tweet by the DHQ said.
