Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) at the weekend donated multimillion naira dental and X-ray equipment to St. Kizito Clinic, Lagos, for the Association of Volunteers in International Service (AVSI).

The gesture will help the NGO to render quality dental care to members of the public at the clinic. The charity reach-out came barely a year after SNEPCo donated a fully equipped ambulance to the clinic also for use by the volunteers.

“We're continuing to express support for the development of health care delivery in Nigeria and make dental care accessible particularly to the less privileged,” said SNEPCo's Managing Director, Mr. Tony Attah, who was represented by the company's Head, Project Relations, Mr. Tunji Oni.

He said the latest donation would boost the volunteering services of the NGO which he said had shown significant commitment in its partnership with the company.

Mr. Attah assured the group that SNEPCo would continue to work with third parties to set up viable and sustainable programmes that add value to society.

In her remarks, the Medical Director of St. Kizito Clinic, Dr. Alda Gemmani, noted that SNEPCo's support over the years had contributed to improving the health and welfare of the Eti Osa community in Lagos and beyond.

She said the donation of ambulance to the clinic in 2013 provided transportation for patients requiring surgery, blood transfusion and other medical emergencies to referral hospitals.

The traditional head of Ilado community in Eti Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Chief Rasheed Afolabi, said: “The donation makes this hospital unique because no other health facility in this area has such a dental unit.  We're grateful to SNEPCo and its partners.”

SNEPCo, one of Shell's companies in Nigeria, was established in February 1993 and commenced oil and gas production in 2005 at Bonga, Nigeria's first major deep-water discovery. Although SNEPCo's operations are offshore, the company implements a CSR programme that spreads across Nigeria.

It has supported charity homes in Lagos State, sponsored a health outreach in Cross Rivers State and worked to deploy Health Strengthening Systems (HSS) at hospitals at Iyi Enu (Anambra State), Ogijo (Ogun State) and Lapai community (Niger State.) The company has also constructed 28 ICT centres in secondary schools and universities across Nigeria.

SNEPCo executes these projects with its co-venturers – ESSO, Agip, and Total under a Production Sharing Contract (PSC) with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) as the licence holder.
