The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi said he was pleased to be part of building churches for God in different parts of the world, including his home parish, Madonna Assumpta Parish, Agulu. He said this yesterday during the dedication of the Church by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Paulinus Ezeokafor.

Obi whose name was announced alongside the Late Prof. Dora Akunyili as the biggest donors to the project, said he was a little unease when the Parish Priest announced his name, saying he was one person who believed that thanksgiving of that nature attracted more blessing when not announced. Paraphrasing the Bible, he said that " as a Christian, we should not let our right hands know what our left hand is giving."

Earlier in his sermon, Bishop Ezeokafor who said that the a Church was celebrating the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, said that it was through the Cross that mankind was saved. He said that Christians should at all times be ready to carry their crosses by living according to the will of God no matter the circumstance.

To those who preach the gospel of prosperity, he said it was the negation of the true essence of Christianity. He said Christians must always face challenges but that they shall always fix their gaze on Christ. He thanked all those that contributed in building a House for God.

He called on the people of the diocese to contribute to the on-going building of the a diocesan university- Peter University

The Parish Priest thanked all those that contributed towards the building of the Church.
