Boko Haram: Adamawa Displaced persons Receive Relief Materials From NEMA

BEVERLY HILLS, September 13, (THEWILL) – Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa State have been presented with three truckloads of relief materials by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The materials were donated to the IDPs at their various camps in the state.

A statement signed by the Information Officer of North East zonal office of the agency, AbdulKadir Ibrahim, said reliefs materials were delivered to victims displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency from Gwoza, Madagali, Michika, Uba and Mubi Local Government Areas of Borno and Adamawa States who are at different IDP camps in the state.

The statement said the relief materials were handed over to the camp central coordinating committee comprising various stakeholders (like Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency ADSEMA, Red Cross, Civil Defence , Police , faith based organisations, local and international NGOs like JNI Oxfam, SISCOPE, IRC, MSF and UNFPA) at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Yola.

It added that the Zonal Coordinator, NEMA North East , Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, who was represented by Senior Relief and Rehabilitation officer Saidu Alkali, said the agency was impressed by the level of assistance and donations by individuals and corporate entities towards alleviating the suffering of the displaced persons.

It noted that the Director General of NEMA. Alhaji Sani Sidi, had instructed the Zonal office to ensure that all arrangements should be put in place to ensure that the IDPs stay in the various camps established in the zone is made comfortable.

Receiving the items on behalf of the IDPs, the permanent secretary ADSEMA, Alhaji Haruna Furo, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for addressing the plight of the people in distress within the North East region.

He noted that the humanitarian intervention from NEMA would go a

long way to alleviate the suffering of the displaced people and their host communities.

The materials delivered to the camps were in three trucks are made up of food and non-food items such as rice, maize, millets, mattresses, blankets,mosquito nets, sanitary items, detergents, and clothing for women and children.

Other items delivered included buckets, soaps and noodles among others.

NEMA has also disclosed that more interventions are underway as part of the plans to ensure the return and rehabilitation of the displaced persons in the state.
