Residents Stranded In Ubeji-Warri As Youths Cut Road Into Two To Protest Deplorable State

BEVERLY HILLS, September 10, (THEWILL) - Apparently disgusted by the deplorable state of Ubeji road, one of the roads leading to the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), in Warri, Delta State , aggrieved residents of the community Wednesday morning cut the road into two as hundreds of the protesting residents barricaded the other part of the road, blocking workers from going out and gaining access into the community .

The road has since 6am remained closed apparently to prod the Delta State Government to carry out the rehabilitation of the road .

The development has caused heavy gridlock at the NPA Expressway, one of the most viable roads leading to the nation's port and refinery, the Nigerian Port Authority and the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) respectively, as the traffic snaked from the Ubeji axis of the road down to the expressway.

Itsekiri youth leader, Chief Ayeri Emami, who is reported to have departed the country Tuesday night, among other notable Itsekiri leaders and oil workers, are residents of Ubeji town, an Itsekiri community in Warri South Local Government Area which is about 14km from Oil City of Warri.

Although details of the protest march were not immediately clear, a source who spoke to THEWILL in the early hours of the day said the protesters may have capitalised on the absence of Emami in the town to carry out the condemnable act.
