BEVERLY HILLS, September 09, (THEWILL) - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State Tuesday threw the party's governorship ticket open to all aspirants across the state saying it would not use the zoning arrangement in selecting its candidate for the 2015 governorship election in the state.

In a communiqué signed by the party's Chairman, Felix Obuah, after a meeting of the PDP executive council in Port Harcourt, the party said it has not and shall not zone the party's governorship ticket to any ethnic nationality, senatorial district or local government area.

The party which is still struggling to rebuild its structures across the state following the mass defection of its members including incumbent state governor Rotimi Amaechi, said it would strive to reclaim all offices it lost following the defections.

The party also warned a member of its Board of Trustees (BOT) from fraternising with Governor Amaechi, by attending meetings of stakeholders in the state.

“For the purpose of the 2015 elections, the party is poised to reclaim all its lost offices in the State. Consequently, the party shall ensure internal democracy and provide a level playing field for every member seeking to contest any elective position.

“That the State chapter of the party has not and shall not zone the governorship ticket of the party to any ethnic nationality, senatorial district or local government area. Consequently, all constitutionally qualified members of the party are free to vie for the party's ticket to allow for the best candidate to emerge,” the PDP said.
