The immediate past governor of Imo state, Sir Ikedi Ohakim, has reunited with artisans comprising of mechanics, tricycle riders, fashion designers and other self-employed persons to pursue his ambition of reclaiming the governorship position of the state which he lost to Governor Rochas Okorocha in 2011.

Declaring their position after a closed-door meeting with the former governor at his Okohia, Isiala-Mbano country-home, the group which operates under the umbrella of Imo State Artisans Association (ISATA) posited that Ohakim deserves the support of Imo people especially as it has become evident that the former governor has a greater vision for socio-economic development of the state.

The group through its chairman, Okenze Nwachukwu said “having realized that Ohakim championed a greater vision that created vast opportunities for the entire Imolites including artisans to thrive in their respective vocations, our members have agreed to join other well-meaning Imolites to canvass for his return in 2015 to enable him complete his good job. Again, Imolites have equally realized that the former governor was merely a victim of vicious blackmail and campaign of calumny orchestrated by some people to tarnish his image and destroy his party. Unfortunately, some of members were brainwashed and as result joined to work against this innocent man that laid a strong foundation for the comprehensive development of the state”.

They, however, urged the former governor to evolve sound economic policies that rejuvenate the dwindling economy of the state and further create a business friendly atmosphere for artisans and other self- employed persons to prosper if given the opportunity to govern the state again.

In another development, the former governor has accused Okorocha-led rescue mission of being responsible for the recent death of one Joseph Chukwuezi Njoku, a tricycle operator who drowned in the heavy flood presently witnessed along Okigwe road whenever there is heavy downpour.

Ohakim who stormed the burial of the deceased at Amurie, Isu LGA, accompanied by hundreds of tricycle operators and supporters, alluded that the velocity of the flood intensified as a result the newly constructed round-about which he said hinders the free- flow of the ravaging flood.

“It is unfortunate that we lost a brother and friend to the carelessness grossly exhibited by the present administration at the detriment of the lives of our people. That round-about constructed at IMSU junction without plan is responsible for the growing intensity of the flood presently witnessed along Okigwe road. Regrettably, that shoddy and inconsequential project has now become death trap to Imo people and other road users. That among many problems we shall look into when we come back in 2015,” Ohakim said.
