Power Minister Donates Relief Materials To Displaced Damboa Community In Maiduguri

SAN FRANCISCO, August 27, (THEWILL) - Relief has come the way of thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Damboa, Borno State, now residing in Maiduguri, the state capital, because of incessant Boko Haram attacks.

On Wednesday, the Minister of State for Power, Hon Mohammed Wakil, who hails from the area , donated some relief materials to the people.

The relief items included food items such as 100 bags of grains and 200 cartons of Indomie Noodles.

Other items donated to the displaced persons included 80 cartons of Omo detergent, 600 pieces of blankets, 600 pieces of plastic plates, 750 bundles of women and men clothing materials as well as 2,000 pieces of plastic buckets.

The Special Adviser (Political) to the minister, Alhaji Lawal Kolo Gumsuri, who handed the materials to the people on behalf of the Minister , said Wakil procured the relief materials with his personal money in order to bring succour to his people after their loss.

The materials were handed over to the displaced persons at the various locations where they are being resettled at the residence of Alhaji Kaumi Damboa, Jiddari Polo, NYSC camp, School of Nursing, Indimi Mosque, NTA Majalisa and to those taking refuge at Babagana Dawa and Mallam Wakil Korede's house.

Speaking at the occasion, Gumsuri said, “It is very disheartnening to see people who are able bodied breadwinners as refugees, but I want you to regard this misfortune as destined by God.

“You should take solace because in everything, there is a time which normalcy shall return and you will be able to go back to your houses.”

He called on both the Federal and State Governments to continue to give whatever assistance they can to the people so that they could go and rebuild their houses.

“I am calling on the government to give the people the needed assistance directly to the victims so they could go and rebuild their houses to their own taste, instead of constituting a committee that may end up doing a shoddy job,” he said.

He also asked governments at all levels to provide Damboa with earth dams as a lasting solution to the shortage of drinking water for both livestock and the people of the area.
