I€™ve not declared my presidential ambition yet €“ Saraki

Senator Bukola Saraki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has squashed rumours surrounding his ambition in next years' presidential election. The former governor of Kwara sate and a representative of Kwara Central District at the Senate said he will make his decision known at the right time.

Saraki, who dumped the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC urged Nigerians to disregard rumours about his ambition. He made this known after a stakeholders meeting of the Kwara State branch of APC. He however noted that his ultimate goal was not his personal ambition despite rumour and criticism from several quarters.

On his Twitter account Saraki has been encouraging voters particularly those from Kwara to ensure they collect their Permanent Voters Card (PVC). “I stand committed to furthering the Nigerian project through the progressive platform of APC. Together we will take back Nigeria for Nigerians,” he wrote on 18 August.

Meanwhile, Saraki has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of PVC distribution in the state. On his Facebook page, he wrote: “I want to commend members of All Progressive Congress across Kwara state for turning out in their thousands to collect the Permanent Voter's Card ahead of the 2015 general elections. This gesture evidently implies that the people are truly ready to participate in the forth coming election fully and make the change we are all yearning for a reality.”

While admitting that there were hitches at some polling booths, he urged residents to ensure they collect their PVCs. “Even though reports show that there are a few challenges in the collection of the cards at some polling booths in the state, I want to encourage our members who are yet to collect their cards not to relent, but ensure they get registered starting from Wednesday 20th of August. I also task our members who have collected their cards to motivate others at all levels to ensure they get their cards.”

“Generally, I must commend INEC for the good orientation given to corps members who have been very matured and committed in the exercise so far. I urge INEC to speedily look into the problems faced in some polling booths in Kwara and ensure the problems are fixed at the shortest delay in order to uphold the confidence the masses have in INEC.”

“As we look forward to the commencement of fresh voter's card registration on Wednesday 20th of August, I urge all legally qualified persons to come out en mass and register in order to participate in the forthcoming election, the change begins from NOW, do not miss out,” he said.
